what the shit?
So I run this other website, and on that other website there is a feature called the Mystery Link. It's exactly what it sounds like, you clicks the link and you takes your chances. It could be anything, and very probably something seriously disturbing and/or NSFW. If an alien ever lands and asks me to show him the depths of human depravity, this is where I'll send him.
The Mystery Link is fed by the users of my site, but it doesn't keep track of who submitted what or any kind of description. Hell, it only recently started keeping track of when the link was submitted. I don't know where the links come from. I don't want to know.
A few years back one of the people who helped me run that other website coined the term 'infolinkment', and recently it occurred to me to see if it had ever been registered as a domain. Nope. Yoink.
And so, this: the history of the Mystery Link. Until now, when the Mystery Link was replaced with something new, there was no available backlog - when it was gone, it was gone. No longer.
About the pictures: sometimes content hosters will pull an image if it gets a lot traffic - if the image is available when the PIX tab periodically updates, infolinkment makes a local mirror of it and shows that instead of hotlinking the original image. In doing this we save the host's bandwidth, resize the picture for better presentation, and preserve it for posterity should someone somewhere get struck with a conscience. You're welcome. Sometimes animated .gifs and .pngs get borked in this process, so if you want to see the original image from the source, just click the pic. Commenting is allowed in the permalink.
